Our Candles

Quality

All of our materials and finished products are:

Each ChilliWinter candle is made by hand in small batches and so the finish always varies slightly – after all, it isn’t an exact science. All candle batches are cured, and later tested. This ensures the quality of wax, scent ‘throw’ and wick efficiency.

wicks - the low-down

WoodWicks are sensitive, and burn slowly with a low yellow-amber glow. After around 20 minutes they make a soft ‘crackling’ sound. Commonly used traditional wicks burn tall, bright and fast and are the most popular wick type. Ribbon Wicks have a good strong flame, and can withstand a gentle breeze so are ideal for draughty places.

Whichever wick you use, make sure that you trim it before use.  Ideally use a wick trimmer, or a sharp pair of scissors. Remove the charred wick, and make sure the wick is around 5mm when you light it.

With all candles,  make sure the melted wax reaches the outer edges of the container before you gently blow it out. (You might also use a candle snuffer, which we stock). If the melted wax doesn’t reach the edge, it has either been burning too short a time, or the wick is too small for the container.

Never burn any candle for longer than 4 consecutive hours – and ALWAYS follow the safety instructions. To get the best out of your ChilliWinter candles, click here for more information.

Soy Wax

Our ChilliWinter candles are made with all natural 100% pure soy wax, made by UK suppliers using ethically and sustainably sourced soy beans. Soy wax has a soft creamy appearance. It burns more slowly than paraffin and has no additives. This is good news for asthmatics and those with sensitivities or allergies. The wax is melted to an optimum temperature before the scented oils are blended, before pouring.

A note on oils – just like synthetic fragrance oils.  essential oils contain allergens too. In all cases, we advise you to check the product information and labelling before use.
